It gives me immense joy to share with you today a full length record with project ‘Eat The Berries’ called ‘Bees Get Drunk On Honey’ - a labour of love for my dear friend Rengert Eggink and I. Prrrrrrr!
This is definitely the most psychedelic record we’ve put out so far- our idea was to be as collage-like and playful as possible, trying to create a sort of 'jungle' tapestry of sound. 10 tracks of maximalist, tribal, organic and visceral expression.
We started making these pieces when we were still in school in 2017. Every piece has an absolutely ridiculous backstory, we would usually start by sampling a part of our jams and creating wonky loops which we would then transfer to our reel-to-reel. These sounds ranged from the grungy, lo-fi, broken to the downright joyful and ecstatic, and as the track progressed, things only got wilder.
After the initial loops were laid down, we would keep adding layers and layers until we reached an arc with our composition/ structure that we somewhat felt represented our madness, our silliness. At some point in 2020, when I moved back to India just before covid, we had 20 very random pieces - roughly 2 records worth.
What followed, though, totally blew my mind. Working on his own in the Netherlands, Rengert worked some sorcery onto the tracks, adding so much brilliance and beauty whether it was by reinforcing the groove with some extra percussion, stunning ambient transitions, psychedelic guitars cascading everywhere. The result is this absolute trip, which I promise will knock your socks off. I really believe if this record is as memorable for me as it is, it’s because of Rengert’s magic.
Truly can’t wait to put out the second one as well, but in this moment, I leave you all with the first and I hope you enjoy these cinematic worlds!
